Good morning everyone! I am Celeste沈雨曦 from Shenzhen Foreign Languages School.
It’s such an honor to stand here and share my passion for debate. Today, I want to talk about why I love debate, what it has taught me, and why it matters—not just to me, but to all of us.
大家早上好！我是来自深圳外国语学校的沈雨曦Celeste。
很荣幸能在这里分享我对辩论的热爱。今天，我想谈谈为什么我喜欢辩论, 它教会了我什么，以及它的意义——不仅对我，也对在座每一位。
I first stepped into this challenging yet rewarding world when I was in Grade 8. As a public school student, my English skills were far behind my peers from international schools. For me, delivering speeches didn't come easy, and every round was an uphill battle at first. But debate taught me something invaluable: it's not about where you start, but how much you're willing to improve. Match by match, my partner and I progressed. From winning the Shenzhen Regional Championship, and eventually breaking into the National Top 16 - every achievement was built on countless hours of preparation and mutual trust.
初二那年，我初次踏入辩论这个充满挑战的世界。作为公立学校的学生，我的英语水平远不如国际学校的同学。刚开始的每次发言都很艰难，每场比赛都像一场硬仗。但辩论教会我：起点不重要，重要的是你愿意成长多少。一场场比赛下来，我跟我的搭档不断进步。从粤港澳大湾区赛区冠军，再到全国16强——每个成就都建立在无数小时的准备和彼此的信任之上。
I fell in love with debate because it’s more than just arguing. It’s about understanding. Every topic forces you to see the world from multiple perspectives, to step into someone else’s shoes. Whether you’re defending a position or challenging one, debate teaches you that every issue has layers—and the truth is often somewhere in between.
我爱上辩论，是因为它远不止“争论”。它关乎理解。每一个辩题都迫使你从多角度看待世界，设身处地思考。无论捍卫还是反驳，辩论让你明白：任何问题都有多层，而真相往往在中间。
What has debate given me? Confidence to speak, clarity to think, and courage to listen even when I disagree. It’s not about winning; it’s about growing. Every round is a chance to learn—from your opponents, your partner, and even yourself.
辩论给了我什么？自信表达、清晰思考、勇气倾听——即使面对分歧。输赢不重要，成长才重要。每一轮都是学习的机会——向对手、队友，甚至自己学习。
To all the debaters here today: Remember, your voice matters. Whether it’s your first tournament or your fiftieth, every speech is a step forward. So breathe, focus, and enjoy the day. Win or lose, you’re already better than you were yesterday.
